Everyone wants the internet to be faster. Faster means efficient. Efficient means getting more work done or having more fun. I propose three ideas that could very easily speed the web. 1. Get rid of the pornography. Lets face it you can't go anywhere without seeing pornography. You can type coffee in any search engine and it will return with something like "Have coffee with a nude lesbian" OK maybe that's an exaggeration, but there is a lot of pornography on the web and it really takes a lot of bandwidth and webspace. The second thing wrong with pornography is you don't need to be of legal age to see it. You just find a warez web page and they'll give you a password to access a site and all the members features. The third thing wrong with pornography on the web is its not useful. The "information superhighway" was meant for just that, information, not to help get some horny old man with no future get off. 2. Clear all "this page has moved" or "this page is under construction" pages within thirty days. This just slows you down. If you want to get information you don't want to go to ten "this page is under construction" pages before finding one with real info. Most people that will go to a page after it moves will visit it within 30 days so this should give users of the page enough time to update their bookmarks and links from their site. A good webmaster should check to make sure his links aren't broken or linked to a "this page has moved" page every 30 days as well. 3. Take all the pages that have nothing but broken links off the web and clear all the dead pages from search engines. search engines are full of message board posts that were taken down months ago. Try this one type in exactly "aol passwords" into altavista. Its amazing. Thank you for reading and help support the green ribbon campaign to speed the web.
